Knife of Dreams: Book Eleven of 'the Wheel of Time' by Robert Jordan

5.0

It had to describe this book in one word, it would be cathartic. So many plots that had been developing for a few books reached their resolutions, or at least a turning point in the plot. I enjoyed the writing and the pacing so much more than the last few books. The story had no shortage of surprising, and even shocking moments. Some events went exactly as I expected, but others were so surprising that I had to go back and reread parts because I hadn’t seen them coming at all. The battle and action scenes were fascinating and enthralling to read.

Perrin’s character development in this book was very enjoyable. His chapters were incredibly interesting, especially the chapters towards the end of the book. I’m also happy that the plot involving Perrin trying to rescue Faile is over, because I didn’t find that particular storyline very compelling. Mat, on the other hand, I loved in this book. I began the series feeling very “meh” about Mat, but I like him more and more as the story progresses. His storyline in this book felt a lot like him returning to his element. Seeing him butt-heads with Tuon and the development of their dynamic was also very entertaining. Rand didn’t have a lot of page-time in this book, however he went through quite a lot this time around and some of the developments with him are leaving me very excited to see where they go. Nynaeve and Egwene are characters who I struggled with for the last few books, but this book reminded me of why I like them so much. They were such strong characters in this book. I can’t wait to see where things go with both characters. Elayne isn’t my favorite character, but I don’t dislike her. The plot she’s had for the last few books just hasn’t felt interesting or important to me.
