El guardián invisible
by Dolores Redondo
Well built mystery around a mythological figure from the almost unknown culture from the Basque country. Amaia, the main character has to deal with some family issues while trying to find a mysterious killer. Even though I guessed the killer midway through the story, I think it's an interesting ride and a different take on police procedural from a different police body.
I read it in Spanish, but I am curious as to see how the English translation reads and if it's engaging. I guess having the protagonist's husband be American is a great asset into gaining international readership. As is, the protagonist's FBI training.
Even though it leaves a few threads open and I know it's a trilogy, the book reaches a satisfying ending which is something I really appreciate.
It dragged a bit in the descriptions, they lacked action and movement but at the same time it gave the story a magical atmosphere very according to what it was telling.
