The Dogs and the Wolves by Irène Némirovsky

3.0

I seem to be reading a lot of books recently that don't impress me as much as other books by the same author that I'd previously read. This is also true for The Dogs and the Wolves. I was astonished by how articulate and unlike-a-draft Suite Française was, but Dogs just didn't give me that feeling of "how did she *do* that?" The story is fine, the characters are fine, there just wasn't any...magic. Bear in mind that when I give 3*, it really does mean "I liked it", so I'm in no way saying this isn't a good book or that I didn't enjoy reading it - I was just a little disappointed, and I seem to have trouble pulling myself away from my own expectations.
