King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

3.0

This was an enjoyable read even though I gave it 3 stars.

My only complaint and the main reason I gave this a lower rating was that the author could have cut back at least a hundred pages and it would not have affected the plot whatsoever. This really did not need to be 500 pages long. The first half of the book was so slow and only until the last quarter of it did things really start to speed up.

The plot was OK even though at points I was like “what in the dark lord horcrux is going on?” but again I enjoyed it and I have come to care about the characters a lot (namely Zoya and Nikolai).

Also I am definitely aboard the Zoya-Nikolai ship even though there was little romance in the book but it got me super excited to jump into Rule of Wolves.

Overall this was a good book but an average one by Leigh’s standards.
