Chaos: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties by Tom O'Neill

dark informative slow-paced

4.0

This book is for all the people who go down rabbit holes in history and find out everything bad or crazy is because of the CIA, and no, that isn't a exaggeration. The fact that I cannot listen to the Beach Boys in the same way again, whereupon I retired an old teddy bear of mine from my abuelita that sang in (now) ominous tones "God Only Knows", attests to the impact this book brought me. Although I'm pretty seasoned in different political and true crime areas, this really did bring in some new light/angles, and now I'm the person at parties who isn't surprised at much anymore. By about three-quarters of the book it can get a bit monotonous,  coupled with the author's own existential crisis in between facts, but definitely worth a read.

Also, my library keeps declining people to take out this book, and now I wonder if that's intentional. Who knows!
