Business of the Heart by Claire Forsythe

This debut romance gives new meaning to the words “slow burn.” The book starts off at a snail’s pace then picks up, but never gains momentum.

Both main characters are lackluster because they are interchangeable – both are emotionally unengaged, etc.. Worse, though, is they both go from unengaged to fully engaged over the course of only a few days. Then there are the pages and pages and pages of angst – the author would have been better served spending her time developing her characters rather than writing angst that will have readers skimming quickly through the angst hunting for something of substance.

This debut is so stereotypic of this trope that readers will undoubtedly roll their eyes and move on to the next book on their to-be-read list.

My thanks to BSB for an eARC.
