The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

5.0

I heard about this book when I was a teenager, but I dismissed it immediately because of its title, not even knowing what it was about. It had the word "handmaid" in it.

It's not just that a "handmaid" is a servant. A "handmaid" is a woman. And, like a lot of people, I thought that stories about women were stories not worth being told. I wouldn't have said that out loud, and if you suggested that to me, I would have denied it- but nonetheless, that is what I thought.

For all the people saying Gilead couldn't happen, you haven't been paying attention.

Remember: "the best and most cost-effective way to control women for reproductive and other purposes was through women themselves."
