Merciless by W. Winters

4.0

I have to admit that I'm having some trouble deciding how to rate this book. I did, however, find it very interesting. It featured excellent writing, and it progressed at an appropriate pace. I couldn't stop flipping the pages because of how captivating the plot was. However, as a couple, Carter and Aria just failed to click with me. In Merciless, we meet the hardened Mafia boss Carter and experience firsthand the brutality of his personality. This isn't a cute and cuddly love story. Both the blurb and the title are accurate. Carter is merciless. Nothing prevents him from achieving his goals. And he has his sights set on Aria. To be honest, I still don't know how I feel about Carter because he wasn't particularly likeable. Yes, he was charming and sexy. However, I also thought he lacked any redeeming characteristics. I had thought the author would dig more into Carter's past with Aria, but all we ever saw of him was his determination to break Aria, never really revealing who he was on the inside. This book left me wondering what the exact outcome would be. Can love really triumph over all? I'm excited to see where this series goes from here.
