This is a very Scalzi book. Super dialogue heavy, low on description — some of the kaiju weren’t even described, making mental imagery challenging — very offbeat and lighthearted and blackly humorous. Brimming with pop culture and 2020 references to the pandemic and the US election. Closer to Redshirts than Old Man’s War in its irreverent style. I had fun and I liked that it’s short; it didn’t overstay its welcome.
