The Knight & the Moth was impressively good- in fact I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised how much I ended up liking it! Such a unique take on a fantasy theme on a trope I haven’t had the experience reading yet. I appreciate that even though the book is short in length it’s easy to connect with the characters, especially because each has an important background story that is important to the main plot.
<SPOILERS> Comments/Thoughts
- Sybil’s life being a lie and her naïveté is something I feel like a lot of adults can relate to when looking back at their younger lives.
- The romance between Rory and Sybil was so well written, the banter between them was comical yet romantic and heartfelt.
- I was a fan of the Gargoyle’s character, he felt like a Disney princess sidekick like Mushu or Flounder, with his witty, funny one liners. His character was the glue in the story that kept Sybil together and motivated her to find a better world.
- Some of the book was predictable. I was awfully suspicious of the abbess from the beginning, nothing about her cathedral operations felt right or justified.
- The plot twist with the boy King Benji was villainously entertaining yet I found his secret evil tendencies predictable; particularly when Sybil described his eyes as turning cold on multiple occasions and his personality switches prior to the end of the book.
- Ultimately I found this cast of characters lovable and entertaining; I can only hope that they succeed in taking down the evil king in the next book!

There are mentions of drowning in and occasional violence in the book that may be uncomfortable to some readers.
