The Thief of Always
by Clive Barker
I adore this book, and it's one of my go-to comfort reads. As a kid, I was fascinated by this magical Holiday House, where all your earthly desires came true. I yearned for it, relating to Harvey's boredom and the feeling of days being too long. As an adult, I can appreciate the themes of time lost. How being too wrapped up in what you want can make you lose sight of what you already have.
It's simplisticly written and tightly knit, yet still so so fun to read, with added illustrations akin to Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark. The light themes of Clive Barker's signature body horror and a fantastical spin on every child's dream--this book is both unsettling and delightful. A comfort that I can't help returning to time and time again.
