Snow Angels #3
by Jeff Lemire
I barely remember Momma. Sometimes I think I can remember her face. Smiling at me. Other times--most times--I think I'm just imagining that. Could be anyone's face. Might not even be her at all. I do remember worrying when Pa told me that I was going to have a brother or sister. I wanted it to stay just the three of us. Well, it did stay just three of us... but not the way I imagined. Momma died having Mae
This new comiXology original limited series from the author of the critically acclaimed [b:Gideon Falls, Vol. 1: The Black Barn|38812881|Gideon Falls, Vol. 1 The Black Barn|Jeff Lemire|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1523077549l/38812881._SY75_.jpg|60386753], which I really need to read, is a fast paced dystopian tale where humans barely survive an icy apocalypse, living in a glacial trench and feeding off anything they can hunt and kill.
The trench is seemingly endless and above the trench the deadly winds prevent anyone from exploring the wider world. There are also nightmarish tales of a 'Snowman' who hunts humans, used to keep children in line.
The protagonist is a 12 year old girl who is celebrating her birthday with her father and sister by going on a special hunt. When they return to the settlement, however, they find every one has been murdered.
This third issue ramps up the tension even further with Mae and Milli's father injured by the trench dogs and bleeding badly from the wound. Their troubles increase when the infamous boogieman, the 'Snowman', catches up with them. The fate seems to be sealed until Mae comes up with an idea!
This was up there with the best comics I've read. The only reason for not getting 5 stars is the fact the issue is rather short. 4.5 stars here.
