Not as good as the others in the series. More family drama, including a lot that happened before the story starts so it really feels like we're missing a bit. Some serious stuff happened between Mort and his friend Roch (Felix's brother) and the rest of the Rochesters a year ago and we only get bits and pieces of it revealed in the story. I'm still not 100% sure what happened between Mort and Roch, if he said he just admitted he was attracted to Roch or that he was actually in love with him idk. Not as much of a slow burn as previous books because the MCs grew up together, I'm not quite sure when Mort realised he was attracted to Felix, before or after he came on to Roch I couldn't quite figure out.

I thought I would sympathize most with Dolores (Felix and Roch's mother) because I too have had a kidney transplant and struggle with anxiety/depression, but she had the whole Christian epiphany thing on top of it. I didn't have anything like that. Also I wasn't an asshole to people supporting me (at least I hope not).

Favorite quote:
“Now I understand why you are the way you are around Mort.”

“The way I am around Mort?”

“Like he cut out your heart and holds it ransom, and you want it back.”

I sink my hand through my hair. “No, Tiff, that’s not right.”

“It’s not?”

I drop my hand and face her. My voice rumbles. “I don’t want mine back. I want his.”
