Absolutely baffling decisions by Julie Rose!

The text has been aggressively modernized [...]. It has been characterized as slangy, wild, and not closely following the original. However, unlike the Fahnestock and MacAfee edition, it contains a lot of additional background information.

That's pretty much the extent of what can be said about the Rose edition: weird, weird decisions regarding translation, syntax, structure, and essentially every aspect, but the introduction and annotations are excellent. Unfortunately, Rose isn't even to blame for the notes, since those were primarily done by James Madden.

There are several better English translations of Les Misérables; don't bother with this one.
