The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer
by Michelle Hodkin
Well, this one's difficult. I like the mysterious circumstances and the premise for the story, but there was seriously something wrong with the characters. I don't get why Mara doesn't get (more) professional help from the beginning, and I got a bit tired of her during the book - especially when she's around Noah. And why does he have to be a half Luke Perry (90210) and half Edward (Twilight)? The pretty bad boy that acts dominant and is so rich that he can solve anything with money. How convenient. But it's especially the dominant part I dislike. Please stop that in YA.
Fortunately there are Mara's brothers to be the loving and caring characters in the story.
The last chapters made me curious and I'm planning to read the next book - although it got a bit too cliché emo. I just hope there will be mere focus on the mysterious part and not so much on the love drama.
