This book unfortunately committed one of my least favorite taboos: the ugly female scientist. The FMC is smart and therefore doesn't know how to take care of herself? She's nerdy so naturally she can't comb her own hair or dress in anything besides a graphic t shirt? As a female scientist this trope really grinds my gears. It's a nice sentiment in a romance book to have the MMC "not care" what she looks like, but we truly get the impression that this woman is low key disgusting. There are frequent jokes about her not showering, not brushing her hair, not wearing professional clothing when the setting calls for it- and I just didn't find it charming in the least. Then they top it all off with the "OMG she put on makeup and a dress" BS that I truly just can't even begin to unpack.
Overall, story was cute. I just found the way the FMC was spoken about to be... off putting.
