The Purging of Kadillus by Gav Thorpe

3.0

Now, despite the less favourable reviews this books has been garnering elsewhere, I actually quite enjoyed this outing in the Space Marine Battles series. One of the main complaints people have is that Captain Belial of the Dark Angels chapter of Space Marines appears weak and indecisive. However, I thought this was rather harsh, as I interpreted it as a more human perspective of these post-human super warriors, and as such as such was a brave and clever move by the author, Gav Thorpe. Just because the Astartes are super-human, I don't think means that they don't sometimes have moments of doubt. Anyway, this did not effect Belial's ability to fight, as he managed to extract his men from a tricky situation. In the end, if you are looking for a long thesis on philosophy, look elsewhere. However, if you are looking for plenty of dakkadakka, with some surprisingly deep characters, then give it a go, for no other reason that it is quite a lot of fun.
