A Lady's Guide to Scandal by Sophie Irwin

5.0

4.5 There are so many retrospective regency type books currently attempting to use this voice, but only this one has avoided the heavy hackneyed eye rolling I reserve for others.
Eliza has good character balance of strength, intelligence, and wit without being an out of place modern woman running around Georgian England. She juggles two love interests (Melville and Somerset) as well as the pursuit of her personal growth as an artist in the wake of her husband’s death.
The banter between Melville and Eliza is truly charming, prepared as I was to find it disappointing and clichéd. I couldn’t decide who I wanted her to choose- I wanted everyone to win. And fancy a twist at the end. Well done.
