Rocket to the Morgue
by Anthony Boucher
An odd little homage to science fiction and locked room murder mysteries. This was a light fun read, very different from the books my sf-fantasy book club usually discusses. First published in 1942, it didn’t feel as dated as I expected, possibly because it reads like historical rather than contemporary fiction. The author’s inclusion of himself as a minor character made me laugh.
I did like this quote: "science fiction was headed for a blind alley until the realization came that even science fiction must remain fiction, and fiction is basically about people, not subatomic blasters nor time warps." So true.
