Hello hello! It took me 15 hours to read this, and I picked it up 35 times (or something like that... thanks Libby!).

What an adventure. I have learned a hell of a lot. I am inspired and my curiosity continues. Before I'd gotten knee deep in the story, I accidentally read a review that noted how exquisite the character development in the first half was. The writer of this review then said that the second half was weak in comparison... I tried to stop reading after that. I don't know if that's exactly true. I think that the writing style drastically changed to account for a differing culture as time passed, but I don't know if the difference in character development was so stark.

I love how much this book made me feel. My jaw dropped so fast I'd hear it click, my eyes welled to pause my reading, I blushed hard, and I am sure my giggling was observed by someone passing by. I would certainly recommend this story. I love how the writing style changes, as I mention above. I loved feeling like I was there the whole time. I would only say that sometimes the story sped up and slowed in ways that were uncomfortable for me.

It is clear that this is the author's baby. And what a beautiful baby it is! A little bit ugly, as all babies are, but keen and honest. Thank you to this book for being my companion as I began my journey in Knoxville, Tennessee this summer.
