Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

A funny novel of manners.

The Bennett daughters have pretty bad parents. Mrs Bennett is a twittering idiot, but Mr Bennett should have figured that out before he married her and not have been blinded by her good looks. He also should have invested the family money properly so they didn't need to rely on a hypothetical son agreeing to break the entail.

But the most captivating character for me was Charlotte Lucas. The decision she made would be almost unthinkable in this day and age. However, back then she was dealt a mediocre hand and played it to the absolute maximum. Well done, Mrs Collins.
