I really didn't expect this story to have so much heart to it. I was enjoying the gang fights and the clan politics, but I was blown away by how many emotions were packed into this. It just makes me really scared to read Jade War.
It took me a while to really get attached to the characters, but once i did, the story had me completely sucked in. And let's be honest here, the characters were my absolute favorite part of this book. There were so many moments when I was cheering for a character one chapter, then internally screaming at them in the next. My favorite character is definitely Shae. She doesn't do too much in the beginning, but once she becomes more involved in the story, she became the person I was most excited to follow. It took me a while to grow on Hilo's character, but I really love how he's portrayed. He's not a good person, but he's so fascinating to read, especially from how differently all the characters see him. Anden also took me a while to get invested in, however I'm excited to see how his character continues to grow. Finally, I pretty much liked Lan from the start. He was probably the most obvious character to like and a really great foil to Hilo. I absolutely loved their interactions together.
