Merit by Devney Perry

5.0

I know I start every review this way, but I don't care. I love Devney Perry. I have loved this series of hers so much and I'm bummed to see it come to an end. I am excited for her to dip her toes into the fantasy world with Shield of Sparrows, which I've already preordered of course.

Once best friends as children, Stevie and Maverick can't stand each other as adults. Well, early 20 somethings. Ever since Mav took the insults a little too far with Stevie, she's been done with him. Their families are best friends and shit just got real wit Mav's mom Meredith announcing her cancer diagnosis. Her dying wish is to see Stevie and Maverick give dating a go and try to be nice to one another. Treasure State star punter Maverick loves to get a rise out of Stevie, former college volleyball player, but Stevie knows he's a manwhore and wants nothing to do with him. Neither will deny Meredith though, so they give it a go and decide to pretend for her sake. What they don't realize is they say "mothers know best" for a reason.

This was so good I could have easily devoured it in one sitting, but I showed a little self control and stretched it out to a couple of days. 😂 I loved the way these two understood each other, especially when he called her "Nadine", knowing she hated her masculine first name. I also loved the way Perry weaved in the past book series characters into this plot line.
