The Inheritance Games
Genre: Young Adult Mystery
The Inheritance Games is the first book in YA mystery series by author, Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
I’ll admit I’m late to the game with this one. I’ve seen it around and debated several times whether to read it. A copy became available at my library (although I had to wait for several months) so I figured why not, I didn’t have anything else on the go at the moment. Holy moly, why did I wait so long! This is now my top (okay equal top, sorry House of Hollow) read of 2022.
The story follows Avery Grambs, a highschooler who inherits a fortune from eccentric billionaire and complete stranger, Tobias Hawthorne. As you can imagine this puts a few people out, including his children and grandchildren. What follows is Avery, along with Tobias’s attractive grandchildren as she attempts to discover the truth about why Tobias would grant her his fortune.
This book felt like an adventure, a rollercoaster of a mystery and I was just along for the ride. I adore books where the characters solve puzzles and clues (I blame Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider) so this one was right up my alley. I didn’t expect to be glued to every page. I devoured it in one sitting, barely leaving my reading cocoon. I even purchased the second book before I finished this one.
The book was easy to read, fast paced and extremely well written. I am looking forward to reading more by this author.
