Flirting With Disaster
by Naina Kumar
medium-paced
This Sweet Home Alabama-esc romance was blurbed by Ali Hazelwood and Hannah Bonam-Young and two of my favorite romance authors did not disappoint with this recommendation! Naina Kumar has a beautiful way of writing about finding love, a second chance, and yourself, all when you least expect it.
Meena’s headed back to Texas for a day to check off the biggest item on her to do list; Get a divorce from Nikhil. Once acquired she can get back to DC and see about moving forward with some other items on her list, getting engaged to Shake and running a dual campaign for office. But when a hurricane traps Meena in Texas, in a house still stacked with remnants of the life her and Nikhil had together when they were younger, her checklist begins to unravel.
I really enjoyed this book. It was refreshing to read a second chance romance that wasn’t told through flashbacks. Instead, Kumar was able to artfully weave the essence of Meena and Nikhil’s past into Meena’s first person POV. Added together with the care she showed these characters she achieved a lot of depth in a relatively short book. I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Soneela Nankani, and would recommend. I’ll definitely be looking forward to picking up other books from Naina Kumar in the future!
