Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark

5.0

Ring Shout had me holding my breath up to the very last chapter: despite the volume being so slender, the characters seemed to come alive through the pages (especially Maryse who reminded me a lot of A Master Of Djinn's Fatma) and just like in AMOD, I absolutely loved the mixed lore the author stitched together across multiple cultures. My only gripe with Ring Shout was length: I would have rather read a trilogy (at least) about girl monster hunters wielding magical swords in the face of racism and otherworldly evil alike, but alas, I'll just take what I was given and reward it all the stars I can.
