Hot Cop by Sierra Simone, Laurelin Paige
3.0
Picking up this book, I realized how conflicted I am about consuming media about police officers.
This book follows a cocky "good time" cop Chase, but insert a little politics as if to show his persona by having him speak up for body cams to be installed for all officers, and that his brother in law is a Black men and he cares for his nephews, who will grow up to be Black men. It doesn't go further than surface level, and I'm not sure if it should have or not. Would the book have been too weighed down by Chase championing body cameras and discussing racism/BLM? Maybe. It probably would've been at the detriment of the romance. But something felt kind of flippant at reading this book and being like "oh he's a good cop so it's okay to enjoy this", if that makes sense. I'm still sorting through my feelings so I'm probably not doing justice to it. I need to think on it more.
Careers aside, the storyline is sex heavy as Livia asks Chase on their first date to please knock her up. She's done with men and he's the perfect physical specimen to be the sperm donor for her kids, minus the hefty fertility price tag. So they get to boning... and boning... and boning.
I'm tagging this at erotica for the sheer ratio of sex > plot.
