I’ve been waiting for Gage’s story since the first book.  I knew it was going to be emotional and painful.  It was worth every single tear shed.  Cage and Sadie’s story was a beautiful journey.

Gage has faced loss and regret for things he couldn’t fix.  The only thing that keeps him going are the members of his band, who are his best friends, and drugs and alcohol.  Everyone around him has seen him spiraling.  Sadie has faced her own loss, losing her entire world within 24 hours.  When he meets Sadie in the cemetery he can see the pain in her eyes and brings her home with him to keep her out of jail.  Over several months they seek comfort in each other to hide behind the pain.  When Gage begins to feel for Sadie he chooses to hurt her and she leaves.  After she leaves the pain is stronger and he hits rock bottom.  The next time they see each other, he’s a year out of recovery and she has his baby.

It’s no secret that Nikki Ash is one of my favorite authors.  Every book gets better and better. There was something in the telling of Gage and Sadie’s story that was powerful.  I could feel Gage and Sadie’s pain.  The use of time hops to show Gage’s journey to recovery from events that caused him to seek drugs to his sobriety were perfect.

The story was raw and vulnerable.  The tension and angst was on target.  With no third-act break-up, it left me anxious to know what was going to happen next.   The development of their relationship was paced perfectly.  The beautiful journey of self-forgiveness and second chances wasn’t overshadowed by spice, but that doesn’t mean it lacked spice.  There were plenty of steamy scenes but that fit perfectly into the story pacing.  Through the dark, there were heartwarming and sweet moments that put a smile on my face after the tears.

This emotional and raw look at grief, addiction, and recovery.  This book talks about some heavy topics. The author’s website includes trigger warnings for the series (that may include spoilers).

This is the final book in the Raging Chaos series.  It could be read as a standalone but you get to know more about Gage’s background and teasers for this book throughout the series.  I recommend the entire series.  I recommend starting with A Chance Encounter, an interconnected standalone.
