I just said in a review of a Romantasy that 1st person single pov isn’t my favorite because I feel like it doesn’t leave room for the whole story, or for side characters to be fully dimensional. And yeah I stand by that, but also, when it’s done right, it can really keep things going. In this case the story from anyone else’s pov would be a spoiler. Although I would LOVE some bonus chapters from Hades’ pov. There was a lot going on, and the focus was obviously on Lyra because she is telling her story, but I still formed attachments to characters other than Lyra and Hades, quite a few of them actually! There were some really really fun twists, and the Challenges were heart palpitating, I was truly stressed, but in that way that makes you want to not put the book down, and forget about sleeping, and real life! The chemistry and slow burn between Lyra and Hades was so perfectly done, their tension throughout was palpable, I couldn’t get enough! I can’t believe we have to wait til September for the next book, but I am so excited for it!
I was one of those mythology nerds when I was younger, and while I know a lot about them, I learned a few new things here too, and this was a fun twist on the world and lives of the Greek Gods. Overall this was such a fun time, and I recommend it for anyone that likes a mythological twist, and the gods in the modern world.
