Ballad of Sword and Wine: Qiang Jin Jiu (Novel) Vol. 1
by Tang Jiu Qing
I cannot wait for more people to know how incredibly talented Tang Jiuqing is. I love Qiang Jin Jiu with every fibers of my heart and soul. This story will follow me until the rest of my life and I am not even being dramatic.
I am very critical, especially with the enemies to lovers trope. So I did have my doubts and hesitation at the beginning of the story. However, I think by chapter 10, I was completely hooked. The political intrigue is INTRIGUING, complex and requires readers to pay attention to the smallest details and every characters, even ones that seem unimportant. Everyone plays a part in the story and has motivation, drive and desires of their own, even the "antagonists". If you were hoping for NPC coded bad guys here, then I'm afraid, you will not be able to find them.
I have gone through every single emotions reading this series and I will probably go through them again in my reread (I read in my first language, so I am going to reread in English when official publication comes out).
I cannot talk about the romance yet because I think I will start crying. I finished reading a week ago and I am still processing the relationship between Lanzhou and Ce'An. I will never find them again in other works and that is another level of hurt I am not sure I am ready to face. However, I can tell you this much: If you are looking to read this story for either the politics or the romance, you will still love it. They are true fashion enemies to lovers. And surprisingly, despite the semi fast-burn progression of their love story, I was hooked from beginning to end. I love them so so much and I cannot wait to reread about them.
Universe, if you see this, please I also need a Xiao Chiye in my life!~
