Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

medium-paced

2.5

This book is not bad, but it is not remarkable, in my opinion. From the first few lines, I knew exactly what would happen at the end (minus the character-specific plot lines, but the general gist). It’s a small world and life is filled to the brim with ironies, but I found the overlapping coincidences to be comical but also comically misplaced. Balancing the humor and chaos with heartfelt, difficult topics is tricky, but I was hoping for a bit more substance. It all felt a bit rehearsed.
