Before I discuss my thoughts on this book with you, I’ll just say this. This book contains stories/excerpts by Malorie Blackman, Maureen Johnson, Catherine Johnson, Philip Pullman, James Dawson, Jenny Downham, Patrick Ness, E. Lockhart, Lauren Myracle, Laura Dockrill, Gayle Forman, Markus Zusak, Susie Day, David Levithan, Lauren Kate, Tabitha Suzuma, Andrew Smith, Marcus Sedgwick, Bali Rai, Non Prat, Matt Haig, Phil Earle and Melvin Burgess.

I know, all of those well-known authors, sounds exciting right? I was really looking forward to this book because I absolutely love some of the authors that have contributed to this anthology. What I didn’t realize however, is that most of the stories in here are EXCERPTS. They are part of that author’s actual novel. For example, Markus Zusak’s story is from I Am The Messenger.

I did highly enjoy the original story by Malorie Blackman. It was very unique and funny and it made me so excited for the rest of the book. But I just didn’t enjoy the rest of the book as much. I highly enjoyed reading Tabitha Suzuma’s excerpt because it came from the book Forbidden, which I adored.

Actually, I was a bit afraid during the entire book. I was terrified that I was going to get spoiled because I haven’t read a lot of the books that were featured in this anthology. I don’t think I was spoiled though -thank the universe- but the fear was still there! I did get to discover some books and authors that I didn’t know before which is a very good thing. I’ll definitely be picking up some of the books mentioned here.

Overall, I’d say that Love Hurts was a nice read, it was just very different than what I expected.
