Kelsey Quinn and Gage Brewer are back, this time no longer together as his career eventually got in the way of their relationship. But when Kelsey uncovers remains of an American during a dig in the Philippines and begins investigating the identity, she unwittingly steps into dangerous and deadly territory. Gage joins forces with her as they both seek the truth while trying to stay alive.
The suspense began almost from the beginning and never seemed to let up. We know some of the villains from the start, just enough to keep us suspicious of just about everyone. I liked that Kelsey and Gage hit a serious rough patch since their last book as it seemed like they should given their thriving careers and geographical distance. We got much more insight into their feelings and it made for a richer story. I loved that Kelsey wasn’t just waiting to be rescued but also realized her limitations, providing much balance in how threats were resolved.
Again, the forensic aspects were a meaty part of the story. The series is really living up to my expectations and seems to be on sure footing. Looking forward to what comes next.
