Five Christmas Mysteries: A Christmas Journey / A Christmas Visitor / A Christmas Guest / A Christmas Secret / A Christmas Beginning by Anne Perry

4.0

a very nice Christmas read. a theme running through the stories is people running away to find themselves. I think all of the stories were set (for at least part of the story) somewhere where the character was new, in a far-away and desolate winter landscape. another theme was expiation, a new word for me. the protagonists are characters recognizable from other series; this author is so carefully detailed with her historical setting. I really enjoyed the first four stories, the fifth was more about class distinctions and love vs. marriage, with only a very few Christmas details, and I didn't find the characters as compelling as the other stories.
