This was a truly amazing novel, made so by Tommy Orange’s blunt yet poetic writing style and his often frustrating yet understandable and lovable characters whose stories were written with exactly the care and complexity that must be present when writing about BIPOC. I was left so moved by each of them and their will to persevere despite their infuriating, tragic circumstances, seeing my communities in them, and finally being struck deeply by the violence each of them suffered at the hands of their country and their trauma. The end left me crying during class. I couldn’t recommend a book more highly.
