Invoking the Blood
by Kalista Neith
Invoking the Blood is a dark fantasy, enemies-to-lovers romance, featuring some of my most favorite tropes including Hades and Persephone vibes, vicious vampires, magical powers, fated mates, and spice!! But what drew me in initially was the strong sisterhood/friendship vibes between Faye and Sparrow—their relatable bestie connection made me feel right at home.
Don’t even get me started on the vamp shadow daddy MMC, I cannot get enough of him. I read this book on audio and it’s done with dual narration, so hearing this character’s voice dramatized was freaking amazing! Overall the most intriguing thing was the shared dream sequences between Faye and Rune which proved to be both powerful and intense—I loved how it added a deeper, nuanced layer to their character development.
While it did take me a while to grasp the concept of Voshki, Rune’s “familiar”, I thought this was such a cool, different twist to what I’m used to seeing in vampire lore—it kinda reminded me of Jekyll in Hyde, almost reminiscent of what you’d see in a shifter romance. I’d highly recommend this book for fans of paranormal romantasy with plenty of spice, found family energy, and a fully fleshed out cast of characters! I've already got book 2, A Trial of Lace and Bone, downloaded on @audible and I am SO excited.
Actual Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
