Rose Gold was a victim of her mothers mental illness (Munchausen by proxy) and for years believed that she was ill. Endless doctors appointments, a wheelchair, feeding tubes - she was put through a hell of a lot. She struggles socially, her teeth are ruined with years of vomiting and she is desperate to try and regain the time that she lost.
Patty has served her time in prison for what she did to her daughter and is about to be released - where better to stay that with Rose Gold and repair the damage caused by the injustice of her sentence.
Mother and daughter are reunited much to the horror of the community but Rose Gold isn't the same little girl that she was 5 years ago and isn't as easy to control as before. Patty wants her daughter back under her control and Rose Gold wants to be forever free from Patty.

This book was dark, tense and addictive. The battle of wills between mother and daughter made it really difficult to put down. We get flashbacks to when Rose Gold was trying to establish her life on her own and what brought her back to her mother alongside the present day setting. There were a few possibilities of how this story was going to resolve and i was hooked until i found out. The resolution was satisfying in an odd sort of way and I only caught on to what was happening right before the reveal. The characters were all flawed but very compelling to read about (if you need a clear 'good guy' to root for then you won't find it here) I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend if you like a psychological thriller type.
