The Evolution of Everything: How New Ideas Emerge by Matt Ridley
3.0
The title of this book rings true in that the book itself is way too broad in scope. The author either doesn’t provide explanations for his topics, or they are a few sentences in length accompanied by a lot of hand waving. Additionally, the writing comes very close to conspiracy theory mongering with some of the subjects covered.
I’d place the Freakonomics books by Leavitt and Dubner in the same category as Mr. Ridley’s, but I think that they are written in a much more interesting and informative manner. Overall, I’d suggest giving this book a pass. It really is the literary equivalent of empty calories.
