The Lonely Life by Bette Davis
informative
reflective
fast-paced
2.5
As a huge Bette Davis fan - equally of the person and the actress - who grew up reading biographies written about her, I was hoping for more from her first autobiography, but wound up sort of disappointed.
The book is written at breakneck speed, hardly more than a couple paragraphs per film, and sadly, the book ends just before her career resurgence with Baby Jane, though there is an added afterward written by Bette from near the end of her life.
Don't expect deep reflections on her movies or fellow stars, this seems a hastily churned out memoir, though she comes across as very honest about everything.
