Monday's Not Coming by Tiffany D. Jackson

dark emotional tense medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

3.5

Okay to start off I really did enjoy the book in the beginning. I think Tiffany’s writing style is great and she does a great job immersing us into the reality of Claudia. I also think this is a great book to bring light to real life issues. It does hold truth just how much Black children do fly under the radar and often don’t get help until it really is too late. But the reasoning for my rating is because the story that comes to light towards the end of the book is based on a real life case. For me personally the story lost its moment with me because I already knew what was going to happen because I was familiar with the case. And some things were very much verbatim but the issue I find with it is that the author doesn’t mention that it was based on a true story. So ofc I feel like it’s normal to feel weirdly about reading a book that involves someone’s true reality without permission or acknowledging it. Other than that I do think it was a good read overall.
