Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

So I have mixed feelings about this book. I LOVE the premise, it's such a cool concept with some really dope characters, but it just missed so many marks.

This book is undeniably inspired by Harry Potter, but it didn't really bother me. This book is unlike the many other books that are 'inspired' by popular series but are actually complete rip-offs that they're trying to pass off as original. This book is very clearly and unapologetically Harry Potter fanfic with some AU twists to keep it interesting.

I loved Baz and Simon, they were so cute and I hella shipped them. I totally wish we got way more of them being boyfriends.

I liked Penny and thought she was a really cool character, but I didn't understand Penelope's purpose. For 99% of the book, I thought these two were the same person.

I HATED Agatha, she was horrible, winy and selfish and I pray she isn't in the sequel. The entire book I was looking forward to seeing her reaction to finding out about Baz and Simon - but it never happened. That was probably the most disappointing thing about this book.

Another thing that really made it difficult to love is that there was no real explanation of the world, elements and events from the past were referenced with barely any context; and the plot surrounding the defeat of the humdrum made so sense, and I still don't really understand what happened.

The Lucy and Davy plot line was unnecessary and so confusing, I have a vague idea about what happened in their chapters but I'm still really confused.

Overall, I had pretty high hopes for this book and I'm really sad that it didn't meet anyone. The story has SO much potential but was a complete flop. Having said that, I really loved Baz and Simon so I'll definitely read the second book in hopes of a better story!

Also. Not Gay Enough.
