The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
5.0
Is this actually a five star read? I’m honestly not sure, but the nostalgia factor was HEAVY with this read. I found myself almost crying within the first chapter just because I knew all that was going to happen to these characters. This read-through was the first time I’ve ever really liked Peeta, since I was (unfortunately) more of a Gale girlie as a child. There’s a lot of commentary here that I didn’t pick up on when I was younger, but, now, hits so different with the districts jobs being societally correlated, along with the gender norms and just overall realness of the situations. The stakes were high from the get go, and the fact that most of the tributes renamed unnamed throughout the series amped up the gravity of the story. I’d also completely forgotten just how short of a section Rue is in because she felt like half the plot in my mind. Definitely worth a reread, and I’m super excited—and anxious—to venture further into the series once again.
