Dancing With Myself by Billy Idol

medium-paced

4.0

I listened to this one...narrated by Billy himself - how could you not listen to it?

He talks about his childhood growing up in England and NYC, eventually returning to England only to come back to the States later.  He covers his troubled relationship with his father (who didn't believe he could "do music"), his start in the business, his love for Perri Lister (who is the mother of his son), all of his drug-fueled escapades, his motorcycle accident and the birth of his daughter.  He further talks about his movie career - how he was supposed to have a larger character in the Doors movie but couldn't due to his motorcycle accident, how he was almost cast in Terminator 2 but wasn't, again due to his motorcycle accident and his recording of the theme song for Speed and acting in The Wedding Singer.

He discusses his relationship with his children and he describes at the end of the book how, as an adult, he reconciled with his father before his passing and describes the last few weeks of his dad's life, which I admit, did get me a bit misty-eyed.

Overall, a good book and interesting read (or listen).  He says he is a voracious reader and has quite the extensive vocabulary to go along with reading that much.  Definitely an interesting look into his life.
