A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross

4.5

Jack was born on the isle of Cadence. An island torn apart by two family clans that once strived to be one. The Tamerlaines of the East had hundreds of years ago sent a woman to marry a Braccan of the West in hopes of unity. However, the marriage failed, ending in blood shed, thus drawing a line between the two clans that should not be crossed.

The East prospers with their faith in the elements and spirits of the land. The West is run down and fighting for everything they have as they refuse to give acknowledgment to the land and its spirits. Despite the East's firm reverence for the magic of the isle, something is taking their daughters.

A letter was sent to Jack, a man who was sent away from the isle 12 years ago to study on the mainland. Jack was once a bastard son of the Tamerlaines clan living with his mom on the edge of the clan line. He wonders why his Laird has sent for him to return to the isle and what he, a music student and teacher assistant, can do to assist in finding the missing lasses.

Cadence is full of magic, whimsy, and the spirits of the land, and Jack is a bard at heart with a song as a strong connection to the elements to have. Can he help to find the girls? Will he find peace in his return, or will he want to flee the isle once and for all? Why are the girls going missing? What other secrets does the isle hide?

A River Enchanted is a love story to the lore of Scottland. It weaves magic into your heart and leads you on a journey of self-discovery that is harsh yet beautiful. Rebecca Ross has a wonderful writing style that is easy to lose yourself in. I can not wait to read even more from this author.
