I found The Body Keeps The Score very helpful and comforting. Working through my own issues, it was easy to feel alone and broken — why was I struggling to do daily tasks, why did I have this crushing anxiety and depression? After walking the camino and spending hours and months reflecting, I found a lot of peace. This book really helped me understand the feelings I was having, and explained to me the functioning of my brain on trauma, and the effect of my positive and negative habits on my mental health. Learning that my issues were more than just habits I couldn’t control, (something very frustrating for me because I have read several books on habit and have tried to solve my problems from that perspective) was a huge relief for me. Some things are more complex and biological than I previously understood. This book acted as a flashlight in the dark, and has given me a toolbox to address my internal life.
