This Love Story Will Self-Destruct by Leslie Cohen

Hmmm. I was really looking for a good book and this did not deliver. The characters, especially Eve, are not cohesive and hard to make sense of - unpredictable and confusing. I originally picked this book up as it was described as "When Harry Met Sally" esque. Don't be fooled - there is no cute humour, no heartwarming scenes, no satisfying finish. There isn't a ton of plot. I think that the author also tries to include many meaningful topics to enhance the book - grief, trauma, abuse - but without proper exploration of the topics, they don't mean anything to the reader. They just sit there, having been mentioned but not actually developed. Rather, it feels like she's just shoehorned them in to make her book look deeper. Overall a disappointment.
