The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys
3.0
I love Ruta Sepetys' writing and I'm so sad this book was not it for me. I was so excited to read about Spain after the Civil War since I haven't read about Spain under Franco's dictatorship before.
THERE ARE SO MANY POVs and it made me not connect with the characters at all. The book is really slow and too long for what it delivered. There were things happening that kept me intrigued enough to finish it, but not to love it.
I did like all the research and tidbits about Spain during this time period. The fact that babies were taken away from "degenerates" parents during Franco's dictatorship was definitely sick and twisted. I had no idea that happened back then.
Sepetys' books usually impact me mentally and emotionally, but that didn't happen with this book. I am still looking forward to read more of her work.
