Fairydale by Veronica Lancet

adventurous dark emotional mysterious sad tense slow-paced

What in the bargainer series, meets mortal instruments, meets Hollow Heathens, meets outlander, meets IBP? This was a weird one. It's a mix of dark Romance, paranormal, Gothic, fantasy. There were some plot lines of this book that I was able to predict, while most I could not. They came way out of left field. Even though the book was wayyy too long (dragged on), I will admit that I stayed intrigued the whole time. I feel that even though I enjoyed it, I would have dnfd if it weren able to hold my attention that way that it did. There were many plot twists, and the world building took some getting used to. (*cough* *cough* mister meow...🥴😭) The writing took me a bit to get used to as well, though I think it may have been intentional. I will say that the slow burn was slowwwww 🔥. The yearning was such a major part of the book. Side note, why do the main characters kind of give Morticia and Gomez vibes? Just a little bit? I'm not going to lie, I ate this book up. I started to lose faith at around 50-60%. I felt that the more I read the book, the less I like any of the characters, but a few plot twists later, I gained a second wind. My only complaint is that it could easily have been 400 pages instead of nearly 700. If you are some how has or is struggling to get through this book because it is so dragged on, I recommend listening to the audio version. In my opinion, it's so worth it to push through. It pays off in the end. I do appreciate how unique and intriguing this book is. I definitely agree when people say it is three books in one. Safe to say that Fairydale will live rent free in my head for a long while, lol.
