How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff
3.0

The narrator lacks a big juicy bullshit heart, which makes her much more interesting. Also children being adults makes me wonder if they do and they are in such circumstances. Probably, yes? We are more than we are when we have to be, and I suspect that applies to children more so than adults. The relationship between the narrator and her cousin was fascinating to me, but it makes me wonder who the audience for this book is. Adults, like lovely librarians and teachers and the like, could read critically, but I often find when I put a book like this in the hand of a student, there fear of the other brings out their ewws. Perhaps it is just the exposure to an idea that counts.
Anyway, this book was different, and that's why I gave it 3 stars instead of 2. I also like the pastoral setting. Cheers.
