Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan
3.0

This was a funish summer time read. It had all the summer vibes. If you like Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren and Every Summer After by Carley Fortune, then I think you would enjoy this one since it's the same trope. However, I do think that if you love one of those books more, then this one will kind of fall flat for you. Overall, I just think it’s a fun, easy summer read. Just don’t think too hard about it lol. The main issues I had with this book were that I wanted to like this man so badly, but he felt too much like a real-life man, making me angry at just being a dumb man, and like it was his fault, and he literally did no groveling, which is crazy. There was truly this one part when he was like  "I was just a boy; I was just like 17, and she was like, "I was literally so depressed and very mentally ill and went to a therapist" and I kid you, not, his response was, "It’s so crazy. You want to kiss me right now" (not word for word, but basically that, but paraphrased). SIR?!?! WHAT Please, I have to go. This man has no communication skills whatsoever, and then instead of telling her, Hey, I think you’re really in this kind of toxic relationship  (which, btw, is not toxic really, but whatever), he instead yells at her about chocolate cake and then is like, I’m leaving again!! When he knew that was the thing that hurt her before??? Like the audacity of you still acting like you're 17?? Why didn’t you just talk to her? I genuinely think this is the first book I’ve read that reads like a real-life man. That's not what I'm here for; let's be real. He had me so annoyed, but when we’re in his POV, he's so cute. IDK, I also kind of feel bad for her ex, and like, that never happens. If you want a quickish summer beach read, this is one of them. It’s not a crazy, deep romance, but it will do.
